Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Shipboard fire-pump capacity, pressure, redundancy and emergency-pump arrangements are governed primarily by SOLAS Chapter II-2 and the IMO International Code for Fire Safety Systems, Chapter 12. Electrical equipment and installation may also follow applicable IEC 60092 requirements.
Class Approval Fire-pump selection and installation are normally reviewed by the vessel's classification society, such as DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Product certification or type approval depends on pump design, drive arrangement, flag requirements and vessel class rules.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Size the pump from the approved fire-main hydraulic calculation. Provide accessible suction and discharge isolation, non-return protection, pressure indication and priming where required. Install the emergency fire pump outside the main machinery space with independent power and compliant suction arrangements.
Maintenance Tips Test pumps regularly at rated operating conditions, record discharge pressure and inspect seals, bearings, couplings, strainers and valves. Confirm automatic or remote starting, maintain diesel starting systems where fitted, and flush or protect seawater-wetted parts against corrosion.
Safety Notes Isolate electrical or diesel power and depressurize the system before maintenance. Do not run a non-self-priming centrifugal pump dry. Keep emergency-pump access clear and verify that relief arrangements prevent excessive fire-main pressure.
