Gear Pumps - Auxiliary Machinery and Engine Room
Marine gear pumps are positive-displacement rotary pumps used to transfer fuel oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil and other viscous liquids. They provide steady, self-priming flow and are commonly installed in engine-room auxiliary systems.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Gear Pumps for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Gear-pump procurement may reference API 676 for rotary positive-displacement pumps. Flange connections may follow ASME B16.5 or EN 1092-1, depending on the pump version and vessel piping standard. Material and test certificates are specified per contract. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Marine gear pumps may be supplied with inspection or product certification from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK or other societies when required. Approval is manufacturer-, model- and project-specific and should be verified against the vessel's class rules. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Install on a rigid foundation, verify shaft alignment and rotation, and use adequately sized suction piping with minimal restrictions. Fit a suitable suction strainer and an external relief valve or correctly routed integral bypass. Prime the pump before initial operation. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Monitor discharge pressure, flow, temperature, noise and seal leakage. Keep the pumped liquid clean, service strainers, lubricate bearings where applicable, and inspect gears, bushings, shaft seals and internal clearances according to the manufacturer's limits. |
| Safety Notes | Never operate against a closed discharge valve because a positive-displacement pump can rapidly overpressure the system. Isolate, depressurize, drain and allow hot liquids to cool before maintenance. Confirm chemical, viscosity, temperature and material compatibility. |
