Cylinder Heads - Auxiliary Machinery and Engine Room

Cylinder heads seal the upper combustion chamber of marine auxiliary diesel engines and support valves, injectors, and cooling passages. They are engine-specific components designed to withstand high combustion pressure and thermal cycling.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cylinder Heads for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Cylinder heads are normally supplied to the engine manufacturer's drawings and material requirements, often with EN 10204 material documentation. ISO 3046 and the IMO NOx Technical Code apply at complete-engine level rather than independently to the cylinder head.
Class Approval Acceptance is normally linked to the class-approved engine design and survey requirements. Replacement heads may require OEM documentation or inspection by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK, depending on vessel class and repair scope.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm the exact engine type, serial number, casting number, and configuration. Check block and liner landing surfaces, use specified new seals and gaskets, and tighten fasteners in the OEM sequence and stages. Set valve clearances and pressure-test cooling passages where required.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for combustion-face cracks, corrosion, gasket leakage, valve-seat recession, worn guides, and blocked cooling passages. Check flatness and perform pressure or crack testing during overhaul. Follow OEM limits before machining or reusing the head.
Safety Notes Isolate starting air, fuel, electrical starting circuits, and cooling water before removal. Allow the engine to cool and release system pressure. Use certified lifting equipment, observe component weight, and never reuse damaged fasteners or sealing components contrary to OEM instructions.
