Auto Transformers - Electrical, Lighting and Power
Marine autotransformers use a common winding to step AC voltage up or down for shipboard lighting, control, and auxiliary power systems. They are compact and efficient but do not provide galvanic isolation between input and output.
ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Auto Transformers for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Commonly designed and tested to applicable IEC 60076-11 dry-type transformer requirements and IEC 60092 shipboard electrical installation requirements. Insulation, enclosure, temperature rise, vibration, and EMC requirements depend on installation and vessel rules. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | Marine acceptance may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK when the specific transformer design, manufacturing documentation, tests, and installation comply with class rules. Approval must be verified for the exact model. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Install in a dry, ventilated enclosure with secure vibration-resistant mounting. Confirm phase, frequency, tap voltage, kVA rating, earthing, cable size, clearances, and overcurrent protection. An autotransformer must not be used where galvanic isolation is required. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Periodically isolate the supply and inspect terminals, insulation, ventilation paths, mounting hardware, corrosion, discoloration, noise, and overheating. Tighten connections to the manufacturer's torque values and perform insulation-resistance and winding checks as required. |
| Safety Notes | Input and output are electrically connected; the output must be treated as live relative to the supply. Apply lockout/tagout before work, discharge connected circuits, provide correctly rated short-circuit and overload protection, and maintain protective earthing. |
