Variable Speed Drives - Electrical, Lighting and Power

Marine variable speed drives (VSDs) regulate the speed and torque of AC motors used in shipboard pumps, fans, compressors, thrusters and other electrical power systems. Marine-rated drives are designed for vibration, humidity, temperature, EMC and shipboard power-network conditions.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Variable Speed Drives for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include IEC 61800-2 for adjustable speed electrical power drive systems, IEC 61800-5-1 for electrical, thermal and energy safety, IEC 60092-504 for special features of shipboard electrical installations, and IACS UR E10 environmental testing where required. Certification is model and configuration specific.
Class Approval Marine type approval may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA or CCS, depending on the exact drive, enclosure, installation location and approval scope. Verify the current manufacturer certificate before procurement.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install according to the manufacturer's marine manual and approved electrical drawings. Confirm motor rating, voltage, frequency, short-circuit level, harmonic limits, cooling clearance, cable shielding, earthing and EMC segregation. Use marine-approved enclosure and ventilation arrangements.
Maintenance Tips Inspect ventilation paths, cooling fans, terminals, cable glands and filters regularly. Clean with dry, nonconductive methods, check fault histories and insulation conditions, and retighten connections only under approved isolation procedures. Replace capacitors, fans and filters according to the manufacturer's service schedule.
Safety Notes Isolate, lock out and verify absence of voltage before servicing. DC-link capacitors can remain charged after shutdown; observe the specified discharge time and measure before contact. Use suitable PPE, arc-flash controls and qualified personnel. Do not bypass protective trips or operate outside the approved motor and drive ratings.
