Changeover Switches - Electrical, Lighting and Power

Marine changeover switches manually transfer electrical loads between two independent power sources, such as shore power, generator, transformer, or emergency supply. They are used for lighting, distribution boards, pumps, and other shipboard loads where reliable source isolation is required.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Changeover Switches for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Typical requirements include IEC 60947-3 for switches, disconnectors and switch-disconnectors, IEC 60947-6-1 for transfer switching equipment where applicable, and IEC 60092-302 for shipboard low-voltage switchgear and controlgear. Certification depends on the exact product and installation.
Class Approval Marine type approval is product- and configuration-dependent. Relevant classification societies may include DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK. Verify the manufacturer's type-approval certificate and vessel class requirements before procurement.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install by qualified marine electrical personnel in accordance with the wiring diagram, rated voltage, current, short-circuit withstand, pole configuration, and required creepage and clearance distances. Provide suitable upstream overcurrent protection and ensure correct phase identification. Do not connect both sources in parallel unless the equipment is specifically designed and approved for that function.
Maintenance Tips Inspect terminals, enclosure, labels, interlocks, and mechanical operation during planned maintenance. Check for overheating, corrosion, looseness, insulation deterioration, and abnormal contact resistance. Isolate and lock out all sources before servicing.
Safety Notes Treat both incoming sources as live until isolated and verified dead. Use lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE, and test instruments rated for the system voltage. Confirm that emergency and essential-load transfer arrangements comply with the vessel's approved electrical drawings and class requirements.
