Contactors - Electrical, Lighting and Power

Marine contactors are electrically operated switching devices used to control motors, pumps, fans, compressors, heaters, lighting circuits, and other shipboard power loads. They are selected for the system voltage, current, utilization category, coil voltage, duty cycle, short-circuit coordination, and marine environmental requirements.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Contactors for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly designed and tested to IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-4-1. Marine installations may additionally require IEC 60092-504 and IEC 60533 compliance, as well as manufacturer-specific marine type approval. Ratings must be verified from the product certificate and datasheet.
Class Approval Marine type approval may be available for selected contactor ranges from societies such as DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK. Approval is model-, configuration-, and application-specific and must be confirmed with the manufacturer.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify coil voltage and frequency, utilization category, rated operational current, short-circuit coordination, terminal arrangement, and required clearances. Install on a suitable panel mounting surface, tighten terminals to the specified torque, and provide overload protection where required.
Maintenance Tips Inspect terminals for looseness, overheating, corrosion, and discoloration. Check contact wear, coil operation, auxiliary contacts, and mechanical movement during planned maintenance. Replace contacts or the complete contactor when wear exceeds manufacturer limits.
Safety Notes Isolate, lock out, and verify absence of voltage before installation or maintenance. Contactors are not substitutes for circuit breakers or isolation devices. Use only the correct coil and contact ratings, maintain enclosure protection, and follow shipboard electrical safety procedures.
