Star Delta Starters - Electrical, Lighting and Power

A star-delta starter is a reduced-voltage motor starter used for starting suitable three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors. It starts the motor in star connection and changes to delta after acceleration, reducing starting current and torque.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Star Delta Starters for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification IEC 60947-4-1 is commonly applicable to low-voltage contactors and motor starters. Marine assemblies may additionally be designed and tested to IEC 60092 requirements, with exact standards dependent on vessel system voltage, installation, and classification project.
Class Approval DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK may accept or approve marine starter assemblies when the specific product, enclosure, installation, and project certification requirements are satisfied. Approval is not automatic for every configuration.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify that the motor is suitable for star-delta starting and has six accessible terminals. Confirm motor voltage, phase sequence, contactor ratings, overload setting, control voltage, timer adjustment, interlocking, enclosure rating, and cable termination before energizing.
Maintenance Tips Inspect contactor contacts, terminals, overload relay, timer, interlocks, and enclosure for wear, looseness, corrosion, heat damage, and moisture ingress. Test the transition sequence and insulation condition during planned maintenance.
Safety Notes Isolate, lock out, and verify absence of voltage before work. Star-delta starters do not provide full starting torque and may be unsuitable for high-inertia or loaded starts. Use correctly rated marine components and follow vessel electrical procedures.
