Chain Blocks - General Stores, Hardware and Tools

Manual chain blocks are portable hand-operated lifting devices used aboard ships, in engine rooms, workshops, cargo areas, and shipyards. They lift and position machinery, valves, pipes, pumps, motors, and other heavy components where electric or pneumatic power is unavailable.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Chain Blocks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly manufactured and tested in accordance with EN 13157 and ASME B30.16, with applicable national lifting-equipment requirements. The exact standard, proof-load test, and documentation depend on the manufacturer and model.
Class Approval Classification approval is not inherent to all chain blocks. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK acceptance or certification may be available for specific models or applications and must be verified from the manufacturer's certificates and vessel requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Verify the safe working load, lift height, headroom, and suspension-point capacity before use. Attach only to a certified structural point or correctly rated trolley. Ensure the load chain is correctly reeved and the hook safety latch closes fully. Do not side-load the hooks.
Maintenance Tips Inspect hooks, latches, load chain, hand chain, brake, gears, and suspension components before use. Lubricate the load chain with the manufacturer-approved lubricant, keep the mechanism clean, and remove damaged or stretched chain from service. Perform periodic examination and proof testing as required by regulations and the maker.
Safety Notes Never exceed the rated capacity or use the chain block for personnel lifting. Keep people clear of suspended loads, avoid shock loading, and do not leave a suspended load unattended. Do not operate with twisted, damaged, corroded, or kinked chain. Use appropriate lifting accessories and follow the vessel's lifting plan.
