Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common dimensional and product references include DIN 338 for jobber drills, DIN 1414 for technical delivery conditions, ISO 235 for twist drills, and ISO 4957 for tool steels. Certification depends on the manufacturer and product series.
Class Approval Standard drill bits are generally not individually type-approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV or ClassNK. Use manufacturer documentation and vessel work procedures where class-controlled repairs or modifications are involved.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the bit material, diameter and point geometry for the workpiece. Secure the job, use suitable cutting speed and feed, apply cutting fluid where appropriate, and remove swarf safely. Do not exceed the chuck or tool rating.
Maintenance Tips Keep bits clean, dry and lightly protected against corrosion. Store by size to prevent edge damage. Inspect for dull, chipped or overheated cutting edges and replace or resharpen as permitted by the manufacturer.
Safety Notes Wear eye protection and suitable work gloves where appropriate. Secure loose clothing and hair, clamp the workpiece, and isolate nearby machinery. Do not touch rotating tools or swarf, and follow onboard permit-to-work and electrical safety procedures.
