Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification ASME B89.1.7 may apply to steel measuring tape performance. Measuring tapes intended for regulated trade measurement may be marked to an applicable legal-metrology accuracy class under EU Directive 2014/32/EU. Verify manufacturer markings.
Class Approval Generally not subject to marine classification-society approval. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK approval is normally not required for general-purpose tape measures.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes No installation is required. Inspect that the blade, hook, locking mechanism, case, and belt clip are secure before use. Select a blade length and graduation system suitable for the measurement task.
Maintenance Tips Wipe salt, dirt, oil, and moisture from the blade after use. Allow the blade to dry before retraction. Do not kink or sharply bend the blade. Replace the tape if graduations are unreadable or the hook or lock is damaged.
Safety Notes Wear suitable hand and eye protection when measuring near sharp edges, rotating machinery, or hot equipment. Control rapid blade retraction to prevent hand injury. Do not use a tape measure near energized electrical equipment unless it is specifically rated for that purpose.
