Welding Earth Clamps - General Stores, Hardware and Tools

Welding earth clamps, also called work-return clamps, connect the welding power source return lead to the vessel, workpiece, or approved welding table. They provide a secure, low-resistance current path during ship repair, fabrication, and maintenance welding.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Welding Earth Clamps for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification IEC 60974-13 applies to welding current return clamps. The clamp should also be suitable for the welding machine manufacturer's specified cable size and current rating.
Class Approval Individual welding earth clamps are not normally supplied with separate marine class approval. Onboard use may be subject to the vessel's SMS, flag-state requirements, and acceptance by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK where applicable.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Connect the clamp to the welding machine work-return cable using the correct lug or terminal. Clamp directly to clean, bare metal near the weld and ensure firm jaw contact. Do not use ship structure, piping, bearings, or cables as an unintended return path.
Maintenance Tips Inspect jaws, spring tension, cable connection, and insulation before use. Remove weld spatter, paint, rust, and scale from contact surfaces. Tighten loose terminals and replace clamps with damaged jaws, overheated parts, or cracked insulation.
Safety Notes Confirm the clamp rating matches the welding current and duty cycle. Isolate fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and gas hazards before hot work. Use approved welding PPE, ventilation, fire watch, and hot-work controls. Never connect or disconnect the clamp while welding current is flowing.
