Snatch Blocks - General Stores, Hardware and Tools

Snatch blocks are hinged or side-opening pulley blocks used with wire rope for lifting, hauling, redirecting, and tensioning operations aboard ships. They allow the wire rope to be inserted without threading it through a closed block.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Snatch Blocks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable requirements may include ASME B30.26 for rigging hardware and EN 13155 for loose lifting accessories, depending on design and jurisdiction. Use only products with traceable manufacturer markings, rated capacity, and inspection documentation.
Class Approval Generic snatch blocks are not automatically class-approved. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK acceptance may apply when supplied as part of certified lifting, towing, anchor-handling, or deck machinery equipment.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the block for the wire-rope diameter, working load limit, fleet angle, and expected duty. Confirm the connection point is rated for the load. Install with the cheek plate fully closed and secured, and ensure the rope enters the sheave correctly.
Maintenance Tips Inspect before and after use for cracks, deformation, excessive sheave wear, damaged bearings, loose fasteners, and hook or shackle damage. Lubricate bearings and sheave pins as specified by the manufacturer. Remove from service if identification or rated capacity markings are illegible.
Safety Notes Never exceed the marked working load limit or use a damaged block. Keep personnel clear of suspended loads, bights, and rope snap-back zones. Do not use a snatch block for lifting people, and verify wire-rope compatibility and correct reeving before operation.
