Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Non-metallic abrasives may be specified to ISO 11126; metallic abrasives may be specified to ISO 11124. Surface preparation and cleanliness are commonly assessed using ISO 8501-1, ISO 8503, and ISO 8502. Product-specific certificates and safety data sheets should be verified.
Class Approval Classification societies generally do not type-approve loose blasting media. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, and ClassNK may accept the resulting surface preparation and coating system when documented under the vessel coating specification and applicable class requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Use dry, clean, uncontaminated media in equipment rated for the selected abrasive. Set nozzle pressure, abrasive flow, nozzle size, and stand-off distance according to the media and coating specification. Confirm the required surface cleanliness and profile before painting.
Maintenance Tips Keep media sealed and protected from moisture, oil, salt, and other contamination. Inspect blast pots, hoses, nozzles, separators, and recovery systems regularly. Recycle abrasive only when its condition and cleanliness remain suitable.
Safety Notes Use an approved abrasive-blasting helmet with supplied-air respirator, protective clothing, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection. Provide ventilation, exclusion zones, and dust control. Test existing coatings for hazardous substances such as lead or asbestos before blasting.
