Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Fused aluminum oxide blasting abrasives are commonly specified to ISO 11126-7. Test methods may follow ISO 11127. Surface cleanliness and profile are commonly assessed using ISO 8501 and ISO 8503. Product-specific compliance must be confirmed from the supplier.
Class Approval Aluminum oxide abrasive is generally not individually class-approved. Its use on classed vessels is subject to the coating manufacturer’s approved system, surface-preparation specification, and applicable requirements of DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, BV, or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Use clean, dry, oil-free abrasive with compatible blasting equipment. Select grit size and blasting pressure according to the coating specification and required surface profile. Remove dust and abrasive residue before applying primer or coating.
Maintenance Tips Store in sealed, dry containers and protect from moisture and contamination. Inspect blasting hoses, nozzles, pressure vessels, and recovery systems regularly. Do not reuse abrasive if it is excessively contaminated or degraded.
Safety Notes Use an approved abrasive-blasting helmet, supplied-air respirator, protective clothing, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection. Control dust and contain spent abrasive. Follow the safety data sheet and applicable shipyard occupational-safety requirements.
