Etch Primer - Marine Paint and Painting Equipment

Marine etch primer is a thin adhesion-promoting coating applied to aluminum, galvanized steel, and other difficult substrates before compatible marine paint systems. It improves coating adhesion and provides limited corrosion protection but is normally overcoated with a specified primer or finish.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Etch Primer for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Application and performance are normally controlled by the manufacturer's technical data sheet and the vessel coating specification. ISO 12944 may be relevant to the overall protective coating system, but it does not specifically certify every etch primer product.
Class Approval Etch primer products are generally not individually class-approved. Acceptance may form part of an approved vessel coating system or project specification by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove oil, grease, salts, corrosion, and loose coatings. Prepare the substrate to the manufacturer's specified standard, ensure it is dry, and apply the primer within the specified temperature, humidity, and recoat limits. Overcoat only with compatible products.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for peeling, blistering, corrosion, and mechanical damage. Repair damaged areas by cleaning back to sound coating or prepared metal, then reapply the approved primer and coating system according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Safety Notes Use suitable ventilation, protective gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection where required. Keep away from ignition sources, observe solvent and flash-point precautions, and follow the safety data sheet. Do not mix products or thinners unless approved by the manufacturer.
