Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine coating systems are commonly specified with ISO 12944 corrosion-protection requirements and ISO 8501-1 surface-preparation grades. Application inspection may use ISO 19840 or SSPC-PA 2. Product-specific technical data sheets govern zinc content, mixing ratio, application thickness, curing, and overcoating.
Class Approval Classification approval is product- and application-specific. Marine coating systems may be accepted by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK when specified, tested, and documented for the relevant vessel area. Verify approval with the coating manufacturer and vessel class.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove oil, salts, rust, mill scale, and moisture before application. Abrasive blast carbon steel to the specified preparation grade, commonly Sa 2.5, and apply within the stated surface-temperature and humidity limits. Mix components accurately, observe induction time and pot life, and apply the specified dry-film thickness. Use only approved compatible overcoats.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for blistering, cracking, rust breakthrough, mechanical damage, and coating-thickness loss. Wash contaminated surfaces with fresh water, remove loose coating and corrosion, feather sound edges, and repair using the approved coating system. Record batch numbers, thickness measurements, and environmental conditions.
Safety Notes Use the current safety data sheet and provide ventilation during application and curing. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and suitable respiratory protection. Keep away from ignition sources where solvent vapors are present, and follow explosion-control requirements for enclosed ship spaces.
