Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine primer systems are commonly specified with ISO 12944 corrosion-protection requirements and ISO 8501-1 surface-preparation grades. Ballast-tank systems may require IMO PSPC compliance under MSC.215(82), subject to the complete approved coating system and product documentation.
Class Approval Class acceptance is product- and service-specific. Depending on the coating system and application, approvals or acceptance may involve DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, or ClassNK. Verify the current manufacturer's type-approval certificate for the intended vessel area.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove oil, grease, salt, rust, and mill scale before coating. Prepare steel to the specified ISO 8501-1 cleanliness grade, ensure the surface is dry and above the dew point, mix components at the stated ratio, and apply within the manufacturer's pot-life, temperature, humidity, and recoat limits.
Maintenance Tips Inspect coating for blistering, rusting, cracking, delamination, and mechanical damage. Clean salt and contaminants, remove defective coating and corrosion, and repair using the original or technically compatible coating system. Record batch numbers, dry-film thickness, and repair areas.
Safety Notes Use the current safety data sheet and product data sheet. Provide ventilation and suitable respiratory, skin, and eye protection. Keep coatings and solvents away from ignition sources, observe enclosed-space and hot-work controls, and follow hazardous-material handling and waste-disposal requirements.
