Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Marine varnish has no single universal certification. Product-specific technical data sheets and safety data sheets should be checked. ISO 12944 may be relevant to complete protective coating systems, but it does not automatically certify an individual varnish.
Class Approval Generally not class-approved as an individual decorative wood varnish. Where used in accommodation or structural applications, confirm project requirements with DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or ClassNK and use manufacturer-approved products where specified.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove grease, wax, salt, and loose coating. Sand the wood smooth, clean thoroughly, and ensure it is dry. Apply the specified number of coats at the manufacturer's stated temperature, humidity, recoat interval, and film thickness. Provide adequate ventilation.
Maintenance Tips Inspect regularly for cracking, peeling, loss of gloss, and moisture ingress. Wash with mild detergent and fresh water. Lightly abrade and recoat sound surfaces before breakdown; remove failed coating completely and repair the substrate.
Safety Notes Use the manufacturer's safety data sheet. Keep away from ignition sources because many varnishes and thinners are flammable. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and suitable respiratory protection, and provide ventilation. Dispose of solvent-contaminated materials safely.
