Wash Primer - Marine Paint and Painting Equipment

Marine wash primer is a thin, adhesion-promoting coating applied to suitably prepared steel, aluminium, galvanized surfaces, or other difficult substrates. It commonly uses an acidic resin system and must be overcoated with a compatible marine primer or paint within the specified interval.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Wash Primer for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Application and surface preparation may be specified with ISO 12944 and ISO 8501-1. Product-specific technical data sheets determine compatibility, mixing ratio, pot life, dry film thickness, and overcoating interval.
Class Approval Wash primers are generally approved as part of a complete coating system rather than independently. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, and ClassNK acceptance depends on the product, vessel specification, and approved coating scheme.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove oil, grease, salt, rust, mill scale, and loose coating before application. Follow the manufacturer's mixing ratio, induction time, application method, minimum and maximum overcoating intervals, and specified film thickness. Provide adequate ventilation and observe substrate temperature and dew-point limits.
Maintenance Tips Inspect for blistering, peeling, corrosion, and mechanical damage. Repair damaged areas by cleaning back to sound coating or substrate, then reapply the compatible primer and topcoat according to the coating manufacturer's repair procedure.
Safety Notes Use suitable gloves, protective clothing, eye protection, and approved respiratory protection. Many wash primers contain flammable solvents and acidic components; keep away from ignition sources, avoid skin contact, and provide effective ventilation. Consult the safety data sheet before use.
