Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Application and coating-system selection should follow the manufacturer's technical data sheet. ISO 12944 may be used for corrosion-protection classification of steel structures. Product-specific approvals and VOC requirements vary by formulation and market.
Class Approval Bilge paint itself does not have universal classification approval. Where required, use a coating system accepted by the vessel's classification society and approved by the manufacturer for the intended marine application. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV and ClassNK requirements may apply depending on vessel specification.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Remove oil, grease, salt, rust, loose paint and moisture before application. Prepare steel to the degree specified by the manufacturer, verify surface and ambient conditions, and apply the specified primer, intermediate and topcoat system at the stated dry-film thickness. Provide adequate ventilation and observe overcoating intervals.
Maintenance Tips Inspect regularly for coating breakdown, rust, standing water and oil contamination. Clean spills promptly, remove loose corrosion, spot-prime exposed steel and repair damaged areas using the compatible coating system. Keep bilge drainage and strainers clear.
Safety Notes Review the product safety data sheet before use. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, protective clothing and suitable respiratory protection. Keep away from ignition sources, provide forced ventilation in enclosed spaces, and follow vessel hot-work and confined-space procedures.
