Anchor Chains - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Marine anchor chain cable connects a vessel's anchor to the chain locker and is handled by the windlass for anchoring and retrieval. Stud-link chain is commonly used because the stud limits deformation, supports load distribution, and reduces link tangling.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Anchor Chains for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly manufactured and tested to ISO 1704 and IACS UR W18 requirements. Relevant dimensional standards may include DIN 81848 and DIN 81849. Material, heat-treatment, proof-load, breaking-load, dimensional inspection, and traceability certificates are normally supplied.
Class Approval Marine anchor chains may be certified or approved for a specific vessel by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA, or other IACS classification societies. Approval depends on manufacturer, chain grade, size, testing, and survey requirements.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm chain diameter, grade, link pitch, and width match the windlass cable lifter. Install joining shackles in the approved orientation, secure all pins, connect the bitter end to the specified releasable fitting, and verify chain markings and certificates.
Maintenance Tips Inspect links, studs, joining shackles, and swivels for wear, corrosion, cracks, deformation, loose studs, and wastage. Range and clean the chain periodically, measure critical link diameters, maintain identification markings, and renew components at class limits.
Safety Notes Keep personnel clear of the chain, windlass, hawse pipe, and snap-back zones during operation. Never stand over or straddle a moving chain. Control chain speed, use suitable stoppers and brakes, and isolate the windlass before inspection or maintenance.
