Chocks - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Marine chocks are fixed deck or bulwark fittings that guide mooring and towing lines between the vessel and shore or tug. Open, closed and Panama-type chocks are commonly manufactured from cast or fabricated steel with smooth, wear-resistant line-contact surfaces.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Chocks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Common references include ISO 13729 for closed chocks, JIS F 2005 for closed chocks, DIN 81915 for Panama chocks, and applicable vessel flag-state and class rules. The selected standard, nominal size and safe working load must match the approved mooring arrangement.
Class Approval Chocks may be supplied with material certificates or product approval from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK when required. Acceptance is normally vessel-specific and depends on approved drawings, supporting structure, weld details and design loads.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install at the approved deck or bulwark location with correct line lead angles. Weld or bolt to adequately reinforced structure according to approved drawings, preserving specified radii, alignment and corrosion protection.
Maintenance Tips Inspect regularly for grooving, sharp edges, cracks, deformation, corrosion and damaged welds. Repair coatings and smooth minor burrs without reducing the section below approved limits; replace severely worn or distorted chocks.
Safety Notes Do not exceed the approved safe working load. Keep personnel clear of line snap-back zones and never stand between a loaded line and the chock. Stop operations if cracking, excessive wear, deformation or supporting-structure damage is found.
