Bow Thrusters - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

A bow thruster is a transverse propulsion unit installed near a vessel's bow to generate port or starboard thrust. It improves low-speed maneuvering during berthing, unberthing, station keeping, and operation in confined waters.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Bow Thrusters for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Electrical equipment and cabling are commonly designed to applicable IEC 60092 requirements. Propeller manufacture may reference ISO 484 tolerances. Final compliance depends on vessel flag, power rating, installation design, and classification rules.
Class Approval Bow-thruster installations may be approved by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, or other vessel class societies. Approval is normally project-specific and covers the thruster, drive, controls, foundations, tunnel structure, electrical protection, and sea-trial performance.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install the tunnel and thruster in accordance with the maker's drawings and class-approved plans. Verify hull reinforcement, tunnel alignment, propeller clearance, corrosion protection, sealing, lubrication, cabling, ventilation, and control interlocks before commissioning.
Maintenance Tips Inspect propeller blades, tunnel, seals, bearings, gearbox oil, anodes, hydraulic components, motor insulation, and electrical connections at maker-specified intervals. Remove marine growth and monitor vibration, noise, oil condition, leakage, and operating current.
Safety Notes Isolate and lock out electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical energy before inspection. Prevent thruster operation while divers or personnel are near the tunnel openings. Test emergency stops, alarms, permissives, and bridge indicators after maintenance.
