Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly specified to ISO 2408 or EN 12385-4 for steel wire rope requirements. Inspection, maintenance and discard criteria generally follow ISO 4309. Rope certificates should state diameter, construction, grade, minimum breaking force and test results.
Class Approval Cargo crane ropes may require certification or inspection acceptable to the vessel's classification society, including DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Acceptance is vessel, crane and project specific; individual rope products are not universally class approved.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Confirm rope diameter, construction, lay direction, minimum breaking force and end termination against the crane manufacturer's manual. Prevent kinks and reverse bending during unreeling, maintain fleet-angle limits, tension-spool onto the drum and verify correct anchoring.
Maintenance Tips Inspect routinely for broken wires, corrosion, abrasion, diameter reduction, crushing, birdcaging and lubrication loss. Clean and relubricate with a compatible penetrating rope lubricant. Record inspections and replace the rope when ISO 4309 or manufacturer discard criteria are reached.
Safety Notes Isolate and secure the crane before inspection or replacement. Never work beneath suspended loads or handle a moving rope. Wear gloves and eye protection, use rated lifting equipment, and do not exceed the crane's safe working load or specified rope reeving arrangement.
