Standards, Certifications & Class Approval
Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.
| Applicable Standards & Certification | Commonly manufactured and tested to EN 13889, ASME B30.26 or applicable manufacturer standards. Material certificates, proof-load certificates and inspection documents should be specified when ordering. Compliance varies by shackle model and size. |
|---|---|
| Class Approval | DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK certification or witnessing may be available for selected products and orders. Acceptance must be confirmed against the vessel's class rules, towing plan and product certificate. |
Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information
| Installation Notes | Select a shackle with adequate WLL for the calculated tow load and dynamic amplification. Verify pin diameter, jaw opening and compatibility with wire-rope eyes, chains and towing fittings. Fully engage the pin and secure safety-bolt types with the specified nut and cotter pin. |
|---|---|
| Maintenance Tips | Inspect before use for deformation, cracks, corrosion, wear, damaged threads and bent pins. Keep threads clean and lightly lubricated where permitted. Measure critical dimensions periodically and remove the shackle from service when manufacturer wear or deformation limits are exceeded. |
| Safety Notes | Never exceed the marked WLL or apply unapproved side loading, shock loading or welding. Keep personnel clear of the towline snap-back zone. Use only identifiable, certified shackles and follow the manufacturer, vessel towing manual and class requirements. |
