Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Rudder scantlings, stocks, couplings, bearings and horns are designed under applicable classification rules and IACS UR S10. Steering arrangements are subject to IMO SOLAS Chapter II-1, Regulation 29. Requirements depend on vessel type, size and flag administration.
Class Approval Design approval and survey may be provided by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Approval is vessel- and project-specific and normally covers drawings, materials, welding, nondestructive testing, alignment and operational testing.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install in dry dock according to approved drawings. Verify rudder stock alignment, coupling fit, bearing clearances, seal condition, blade clearance and steering-gear limits. Perform full-angle movement and leak tests before service.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the blade, stock, pintles, bearings, seals and welds during docking. Check for corrosion, cavitation erosion, cracks, excessive bearing clearance and oil leakage. Lubricate and renew components according to the maker's instructions.
Safety Notes Isolate, lock and tag the steering gear before work. Secure the rudder against unintended movement and use certified lifting and support equipment. Follow confined-space, diving and dry-dock safety procedures where applicable.
