Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification No universal ISO, DIN, ANSI, or API product standard is generally assigned specifically to marine rat guards. Their use may form part of ship sanitation and vector-control measures under the WHO International Health Regulations and applicable port-health requirements.
Class Approval Rat guards are generally not class-certified equipment. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, and ClassNK normally do not require individual type approval for standard mooring-line rat guards.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Fit the guard securely around each mooring line between the ship and shore, preferably where it cannot contact the quay or hull. Close all joints and orient conical guards so rodents cannot bypass them. Do not obstruct line movement or safe mooring operations.
Maintenance Tips Inspect routinely for corrosion, cracks, deformation, loose fasteners, and open gaps. Clean contamination, lubricate hinges where applicable, and replace damaged guards. Remove or reposition them before mooring-line adjustment when necessary.
Safety Notes Install only when mooring lines are stable and with authorization from the responsible deck officer. Keep clear of lines under tension and snap-back zones. Wear gloves and follow vessel mooring procedures; never climb onto or straddle a tensioned line.
