Derrick Guys - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Derrick guys are tensioned wire-rope rigging assemblies that support and laterally stabilize shipboard cargo derricks, masts, or posts. They typically incorporate shackles, sockets, turnbuckles, or tensioning devices and are selected to suit the derrick design and safe working load.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Derrick Guys for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Wire rope may be manufactured and tested to ISO 2408, with inspection principles from ISO 4309 where applicable. Complete derrick arrangements are governed by approved vessel plans, SOLAS lifting-appliance requirements, ILO Convention No. 152, flag-state rules, and applicable class rules.
Class Approval Derrick guy design, material certificates, terminations, installation, and load testing may be reviewed or surveyed by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA, or the vessel's designated classification society.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Install to the approved rigging plan using certified shackles, sockets, pins, and tensioning devices. Confirm correct lead, equalized tension, secure pin retention, adequate clearances, and no sharp bends or rope twist. Proof-load or function-test when required by class or flag rules.
Maintenance Tips Inspect routinely for broken wires, corrosion, abrasion, kinks, crushing, diameter loss, damaged sockets, loose pins, and distorted turnbuckles. Lubricate compatible wire rope and threads, maintain specified tension, and replace components that exceed approved discard criteria.
Safety Notes Do not exceed the derrick safe working load. Keep personnel clear of tensioned guys, snap-back zones, and suspended loads. Never adjust or disconnect a guy under load, and use only certified components of the specified strength and size.
