Anchors - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Marine anchors secure ships, vessels and offshore units by engaging the seabed and transferring holding loads through anchor chain or wire. Common designs include Hall, Spek, AC-14 high-holding-power and drag-embedment anchors.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Anchors for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Anchor selection and certification commonly follow IACS UR A1 and the applicable classification society rules for anchoring equipment. Material certificates, proof-load testing and inspection documentation may be required depending on anchor type, mass and vessel class.
Class Approval Anchors may be design-approved, tested and certified under the vessel's classification society, including DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, ClassNK, RINA or CCS. Approval is manufacturer-, design- and size-specific.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Match anchor type and mass to the approved anchoring equipment schedule. Verify shackle compatibility, chain diameter, swivel arrangement, hawse-pipe clearance, fluke movement and secure stowage. Installation and proof testing should follow class-approved drawings and manufacturer instructions.
Maintenance Tips Inspect the crown, flukes, shank, pins, shackles and chain connection for wear, cracks, deformation and corrosion. Check free articulation and secure locking devices. Measure critical wear areas during scheduled surveys and renew components outside class or manufacturer limits.
Safety Notes Keep personnel clear of suspended anchors, moving chain and snap-back zones. Isolate the windlass and secure the anchor before inspection. Use certified lifting gear and never work beneath an unsupported anchor. Confirm brake and securing arrangements before sailing.
