Cargo Hooks - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Cargo hooks are load-handling fittings used with shipboard cranes, derricks, hoists and rigging assemblies. Marine versions are typically forged alloy-steel hooks fitted with safety latches or self-locking mechanisms and selected according to the certified working load limit.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Cargo Hooks for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Commonly specified to ASME B30.10 for hooks and EN 1677 requirements for Grade 8 lifting components. The complete lifting appliance may also be subject to IMO, flag-state and ILO lifting-gear requirements. Certification and proof-load records must match the supplied hook.
Class Approval Hooks used in classed ship lifting appliances may require material certificates, proof-load certification and inspection accepted by DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Approval is product-, vessel- and application-specific rather than universal.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select a hook whose certified working load limit equals or exceeds the maximum applied load. Use compatible pins, shackles, chain or wire-rope fittings, maintain correct load alignment, and follow the manufacturer’s assembly and proof-test instructions.
Maintenance Tips Inspect routinely for cracks, corrosion, wear, throat opening, twist, damaged threads and latch operation. Lubricate swivel or bearing points where specified. Remove from service if deformation or wear exceeds manufacturer limits; do not weld-repair or heat-straighten hooks.
Safety Notes Never exceed the marked working load limit or side-load, tip-load or shock-load the hook. Ensure the load is seated in the bowl and the latch is closed. Keep personnel clear of suspended loads and use only hooks with legible identification and current inspection records.
