Standing Rigging - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Standing rigging comprises fixed wires, rods, composite cables, terminals and turnbuckles that support a vessel's mast and transfer sailing loads into the hull. Systems are selected according to rig loads, corrosion resistance, fatigue life and vessel design.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Standing Rigging for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable references include ISO 12215-10 for rig loads and rig attachments on small craft, ISO 2408 for steel wire rope requirements, ASTM A492 for stainless steel wire rope, and relevant EN 13411 requirements for wire-rope terminations. Compliance depends on material, termination type and vessel design.
Class Approval Approval is normally project-specific rather than universal. DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK may review rig load calculations, material certificates, terminations, chainplates and installation for classed sailing vessels.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Size the rigging from approved load calculations. Use compatible terminals and chainplates, follow the manufacturer's swaging or assembly procedure, secure turnbuckles, align fittings with the load path and tune mast tension without exceeding specified limits.
Maintenance Tips Inspect wires, rods, terminals, turnbuckles and chainplates regularly for broken strands, cracks, pitting, crevice corrosion, deformation and loose locking devices. Rinse salt deposits with fresh water and replace components according to condition and the manufacturer's service guidance.
Safety Notes Standing-rigging failure can cause mast loss and severe injury. Depressurize hydraulic tensioners where fitted, support the mast before disconnecting stays, use calibrated tensioning equipment and never reuse damaged, cracked or incorrectly swaged components.
