Mooring Lines - Deck Machinery and Hull Equipment

Mooring lines are synthetic-fibre or wire ropes used to secure ships to berths, terminals, buoys or other vessels. Selection is based on ship design, line design break force, elongation, environmental exposure and compatibility with deck fittings.

ProShipWorks provides end-to-end support to source and supply Mooring Lines for marine vessels, ship operators, industrial facilities, maintenance teams and procurement departments.

Standards, Certifications & Class Approval

Review the available standards and approval information relevant to the product. Actual certification, material traceability, inspection and classification requirements depend on the product type, intended application and purchasing specification.

Applicable Standards & Certification Applicable references include ISO 9554 for general fibre-rope specifications, ISO 2307 for rope property testing, ISO 10325 for HMPE ropes, ISO 10572 for mixed polyolefin ropes, SOLAS II-1/3-8 and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1620. OCIMF MEG4 is widely used for mooring-system management and line selection.
Class Approval Product-specific type approval or certification may be available from DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas or ClassNK. Acceptance depends on the exact rope model, diameter, test certificate, vessel mooring plan and flag or class requirements; approval should be verified for each supply.

Installation, Maintenance & Safety Information

Installation Notes Select the line to match the vessel's approved mooring arrangement and line design break force. Use manufacturer-approved splices, suitable chafe protection and fair leads. Maintain specified bend ratios and avoid sharp edges, excessive fleet angles, twists and mixed line characteristics unless assessed.
Maintenance Tips Inspect routinely for abrasion, glazing, cuts, pulled strands, chemical contamination, stiffness and splice damage. Record use and inspection history, rotate lines where appropriate, keep them clean and dry in storage, and retire them according to manufacturer criteria and the vessel's mooring-line management plan.
Safety Notes Keep personnel outside snap-back and rope-bight danger areas. Never stand over or straddle a loaded line. Tension lines gradually, maintain clear communication, use compatible deck fittings and stop operations if abnormal wear, surging, overload or equipment malfunction is observed.
